Police Officers From The Rank Of PSI Till DySP All To Be Transferred After 3 Years In One Place

Panjim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday directed Goa police to transfer all deputy superintendents of police (DySPs), police inspectors (PIs), and police sub-inspectors (PSIs) who have been posted at the same police stations for more than three years. Sawant directed DySPs and PIs to move to accommodation in the jurisdictional areas where they have been posted.
Sawant, who also holds the home portfolio, held a review meeting with senior police officers on Sunday. “PIs who have been posted to their preferred police stations as a favour will not be retained at those stations,” he said. “Over the next two to three days, transfer orders will be issued.”
Such PIs and PSIs at police stations will be transferred to other divisions of Goa police and the staff of the divisions will be shifted to the stations, Sawant said. He added that 20% of police station staff would be compulsorily deployed for night patrolling. Last Friday, Goa police transferred 704 personnel who had been with the same police stations for over seven years. Many police inspectors said the transfer order should have focused on “strengthening police stations” rather than on “weakening” them.
As for the CM, he also directed Goa police to transfer all personnel below the rank of PSIs who have completed more than five years at the same police stations. Since the tourism season is approaching, Sawant ordered Goa police to devise a strategy to break the backbone of the drug mafia and betting racketeers. He said police have been directed to act against organised crime through the cybercrime cell.
Sawant said, “There has been a huge migration to the state with business as the ruse.” He said Goa police will carry out tenant verification to keep the unsavoury elements out. He said most crimes are committed by persons coming from outside the state. “Considering national and coastal security, tenant verification will be completed in the state,” he said.
Police have been told by Sawant to conduct compulsory tenant verification from Oct 1 to Oct 10. Those found unverified after the drive will face huge fines. “The fines will be more than Rs 10,000,” Sawant said.
The CM said police will also carry out verification of labourers and labour contractors, who have to compulsorily register with the labour department. He said that the department will tell police to undertake verification. He said he has directed Goa police to strengthen the beat system. Sawant urged the people of the state not to give no-objection certificates to their tenants to apply for passports. Sawant said many people come to Goa and after obtaining NOCs from house owners, apply for passports.
