Dayanand Bandodkar Road Under Stress – By Stephen Dias, Dona Paula
Dayanand Bandodkar road has been recently renovated with a fresh asphalt all along the Miramar to Panjim. The CCP and PWD directed their Contractor of BCPL to have a divider by raising about half a metre height on a concrete slab where at the bottom a cable will be running for electricity connection for their electric poles. I was told by this Project Contractor of Bhakya Constructions Private Ltd, a steel frame having a height nearly 3 metres x 2 metres will be fitted all along these dividers permanently. This divider work might be looking nice but there will be repercussions of kind of safety during the vehicles travelling especially at nights.

Yesterday on 13th March 2023, I happened to travel from Dona Paula to Panjim on this road at late evening hours by scooter and throughout my journey I was uncomfortable, I saw vehicles plying at high speed with full head lights ON without observing speed limits. Probably the traffic department must demand to the government to adhere a law on this Dayanand Bandodkar road to have exclusive lower dim lights for vehicles travelling at night and those who are switching over full lights on, they should be issued a Challan. These dividers having steel railings can also create much more serious problems if they eventually try to cross over the other side of these railings in case of its safety of accident.

Earlier those plastic beacons could have been a better choice for vehicles if situation arises. All these latest high-speed vehicles nowadays are having very high beam lights, the two-wheeler riders are mostly getting blanked. In order to have some relief, the RTO should see that the roads must have proper illumination and must be fitted boards having speed limits and cameras at prominent places and no other display commercial boards whatsoever which gives distraction to vehicular traffic are not permissible on the road which can cause serious accident.  I am displaying a sample of its divider how will it looks in case it is accepted.

Stephen, you are saying in your last para:"...RTO should see that the roads must have proper illumination and must be fitted boards having speed limits and cameras at prominent places and no other display commercial boards whatsoever which gives distraction to vehicular traffic are not permissible on the road..."
I don't think this will help in any way unless first the Police's metal Traffic Barriers with the "message" from the Casinos and others, are removed first or rather their names are wiped out.
I dont think Casinos will take it lying down as I have learnt that they are spending in lakhs by way of "malai" for the cops and politicians.
