Mukti Nagvenkar A Boon For Goan Women Plying Her Rickshaw Safely
Aldona: Mukti Nagvekar, a 30-year-old resident of Sai Nagar in Aldona, is making waves in her community with her recent venture into Goa’s struggling public transport sector- with an electric rickshaw. With two children to support, she decided to take advantage of the government’s e-Rickshaw scheme about a month ago, and it’s been nothing short of a game-changer for her family.

Her primary aim was to provide a reliable and trustworthy transportation option, particularly for women in her community – though she happily accepts male passengers too. And it seems her efforts are paying off. Mukti’s newfound job offers flexibility, requiring little but providing a steady income that goes straight towards supporting her family. “There is no shame in pursuing any business, whether small or large, whether in an office or in the field. However, it takes determination and willpower to do so. One must strive to be a simple and good human being in society, and contribute positively in whatever way possible,” says the cheerful young woman.

One of the perks of her job is the flexibility it offers. Mukti starts her day early, and is available around the clock, ready to provide rides whenever needed, even in emergencies. And she’s quick to praise the reliability of the electric rickshaws, which require just one charge to power through a full day of work. “I appeal to all the women to come forward and start their own ventures, utilising these schemes and subsidies provided by the government,” she adds.

Before becoming a rickshaw-driver, Mukti worked in housekeeping, earning her livelihood through domestic chores. But she saw an opportunity for something more, and with determination and motivation, she made the leap into entrepreneurship with her family’s support. Now, her phone is constantly ringing with calls from people all over Goa, relying on her for safe and dependable transportation. For Mukti, it’s not just about running a business—it’s about making a difference in people’s lives and paving the way for a brighter future for herself and other women
