Dhavlikar Asserts That Smooth Electricity Will Be Provided For Goa

Mapusa: Power Minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar said that the electricity department is working on improving power supply and work orders worth `390 crore have been taken up and that in the next three months the department will be undertaking works worth `150 crore in the state.
Dhavalikar was speaking after inaugurating a gas insulator power sub-station in Calangute, set up at a cost of around `25 crore. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, ZP member Dattaprasad Dabholkar were present among others. Dhavalikar said that there was issue of load shedding in Calangute due to a shortfall in power supply. With the graduation of Tivim sub-station, he said, power supply will improve. “Our goal is to provide equal facilities to all and people should stop stealing power and switch to green energy, that is, solar power,” he said.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said the total cost of setting up the sub-station, including land acquisition, is `24.56 crore. “In 2012, when I became an MLA, garbage, water and electricity were major problems in Calangute that were to be tackled; we set up a world-class solid waste facility. As regards electricity issue, a former electricity employee provided land at a reasonable rate and it was acquired to set up the sub-station in Calangute,” he said.
Lobo further informed that the Saligão sub-station project, which is estimated to cost `350 crore, including laying of power cable from Tivim to Saligão, if becomes a reality, will resolve electricity problem of entire Bardez taluka. Chief electrical engineer Stephen Fernandes said that it is the duty of the department to provide smooth power supply to the people.
